From the Desktop of the Pastor – Week of the 7th Sunday of Easter

Hi everyone,

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, those who celebrate mothers, and those who recognise the role that this maternal type of care plays in our society and beyond!

As I was saying in my sermon today, it’s tough to be a parent. I remember when I was a kid, my parents sometimes would say “wait until you’re a parent…” whenever it was obvious that we weren’t seeing eye-to-eye. Well, now that I’m a parent, I can see how difficult it can be to show our kids that they have a world of potential in front of them and needn’t be worried about many of the things they’re worried about (like their high scores in certain games).

If I could go back in time and meet my younger self, I think I would remind him of how loved he is, not just by his friends and droves of fans, but by his parents, his siblings, and his whole family.

But I get it (of course I do, as I was him), we don’t often see this. We don’t often realise the regard in which we are held. We don’t often recognise just how much and in what ways we are blessed.

If only we could, like all the time, I think the world would be a different place.

Here are the readings for next week:
Acts 1:6-14
Psalm 68:1-10, 32-35
1 Peter 4:12-14; 5:6-11
John 17:1-11
And a video of them being read:

As I was saying up there, we are blessed. We have been invited and welcomed into the family of God. We are told and remind just how loved we are… by God, by our families, by the whole church.

But it doesn’t always feel this way. Because we don’t always get what we want or things don’t always go the way we expect. But being loved isn’t always about that, but it’s in knowing that we aren’t alone when the going gets tough or life throws curve balls or circumstances don’t agree with us. Knowing that we are cared for, supported, and thought about through the ups and downs doesn’t exactly get us out of our difficult issues, but I think it’s like the next best thing.

And Jesus prays for this. He promises it. He wills it into being. Because to him… we’re worth it.

Have a great week, everyone!
