From the Desktop of the Pastor – Week of the 11th Sunday after Pentecost

Hi everyone,

So as many of you know, I’m headed off on my holidays very shortly and I feel like this is a great time to go, as in it was right after our highly successful yard sale that happened yesterday. It was extremely tiring with the set up and clean up and all that, but it was also very rewarding (as I’m sure would be a very accurate description of my impending holidays as well). Not only did we make a decent amount from the sales and donations, but we also had the chance to participate in community.

Community with each other, with our neighbours, with the literal community.

And it was fun. It was fun to be social, to hang out, and to be energized by the excitement and enthusiasm that came from such an event. It was infectious a bit.

I know, it’s just a yard sale. But it’s that community piece that fed me, filled me, and gave me joy. I didn’t even notice it at first, what with the hustle and bustle of all that needed to be done. But it wasn’t until after I got home and was able to catch my breath a little that I realised what a good day it was.

And then it got even better when I learned how much we actually made. It indeed was a good day.

Here are the readings for next week:
Exodus 16:2-4, 9-15
Psalm 78:23-29
Ephesians 4:1-16
John 6:24-35

Talk about feeding and being fed. These readings are all about that, and also highlights that need to physically eat. This goes without saying, we need actual sustenance in order to survive. It’s just how our bodies operate.

But aside from that, we also need to be emotionally, mentally, and spiritually fed. We need that nourishment for our souls. We need more than just… bread alone.

And we get that feeding, thanks be to God, do we ever. It might not be known right away. We might not feel it as it’s happening. But perhaps in hindsight, we look around us, and we ask “what was that all about?” We might see how God was and continues to be with us, feeding us with good things.

So as I embark on this holidays for a few weeks, I will be looking for the ways that God feeds me and our community, and I’ll allow myself to be energized by this grace and blessing that falls from heaven.

Thanks be to God! Have a great next month, everyone! And I’ll see you in September (ish).
